Innovativeness in Sava River Basin
Sava river Basin with its surface of 11.735 km2 makes up for 72% of the whole Danube river Basin and 58 % of all basins in Slovenia.
The length of all watercourses in the Sava river Basin is equal to 15.613 km, which is 53% of all watercourses in Slovenia.
Compared with other basins, the density of the drainage network in the Sava river Basin is relatively high, namely 1,3 km/km2.
Did you know, that in all four Slovenian regions by the Sava river Basin 41,4 % inhabitants are living and working there, creating 48,6% of total Slovenian GDP as well as 55,8% of revenues, employing half of the Slovenian population and 46,7 % of all companies are active on this territory. The city of Ljubljana makes up for 20,6 % of all Slovenian companies, employs 29,5% of all employed in Slovenia and makes 38,2 % of all revenues in Slovenia.
Crossborder cooperation is a key factor of regional development of every country, especially when it comes to natural resources, which can contribute to common welfare. Common interests and many good ideas about sustainable economic development of the Sava region, which adds up to 940 km of river flow and river banks on the territory of four countries with approximately 6,8 million inhabitants and 140 thousand companies along with around one million boats sailing on Sava river on a yearly basis.
This is a considerable potential that offers opportunities of further economic development to towns, cities and administrative units of Sava region in the sense of attractive destinations for domestic and foreign investors.

International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs held in Moscow, Slovenian Entrepreneurs joined the Congress
On 8. February at the annual meeting of the International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs/ICIE in Moscow, Slovenian Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs was accepted into this very influential union. A new platform has been established, through which slovenian entrepreneurs will be able to spread their activities on Russian market and vice versa. ECPD Director Mr Podobnik has attended the meeting to promote different projects, which are oriented towards sustainable development and social responsibility.
Slovenian delegation that included Milan Susman, Zlatko Saje and ECPD Institute Director Mr Janez Podobnik, was during their stay in Moscow also invited to a special meeting of highly influential Russian industrialists and entrepreneurs, which was attended by the Prime Minister of the government of the Russian Federation and most prominent candidate for the new president of Russia, Mr Vladimir Putin.
Plans for the near future include visits of various directors of some Russian banks and other high representatives of Russian enterprises to Slovenia, which have already expressed a clear interest for investments in Slovenia and broader regions. At the same time very concrete procedures have been undertaken for Slovenian project leaders, by which they will be able to be more active on the wide Russian market.

Mr Janez Podobnik attended the UK – Albania Business & Economic Reform Forum, Tirana, 25. 1. 2012
Mr Janez Podobnik has attended the International UK-Albania Business & Economic Reform Forum in Tirana on 25. January 2012. This International forum was organized by British Embassy in Tirana and the International Business & Diplomatic Exchange IBDE.
The key topics at the conference were covered in two panel sessions: Doing business in Albania – Economic Reform Progress and the second one, namely Albania is Open for Business. The panellists included some ministers from Albanian Government, international experts for foreign investments from UK, high level representatives of state institutions from Albania and many entrepreneurs and businessmen from Albania, as well as UK.
Mr Janez Podobnik made a presentation on new approaches in Public-Private partnerships, which make an excellent example of acquring capital in Albania.
He also mentioned the Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM) concept, which was underlined by Albanian Minister for Tourism, Cultural affairs, Youth and Sport, Mr Aldo Bumci, who also presented one of the projects, that has been undertaken together with ICPE, the ICAM Conference.

The international conference was held in Vienna, between 11.-13. January 2012, and was organized by Academic Council on the United Nations System in cooperation with the Austrian Federal ministry for European and International Affairs.
There were many interesting topics discussed at the conference, with most attention given to the panel »Availability of energy for all« and »Green economy and development«. Diverse panels also included a session on how to measure success in fight against corruption, new approaches to e-learning, the meaning of nuclear saftey in global governance.
At the same time workshops for students and young graduates were being held on various topic, with a special focus given to the future of the concept of »UN Peacekeeping«.
Mr Janez Podobnik took the role of a panellist in a discussion on International Networks.
ECPD Academic network has firm grounds to actively engage in ACUNS Network (Academic Council on the United nations System) and dr. Michael Platzer, one of the establishers of ACUNS and their current head of UN Vienna office, has shown a lot of interest to cooperate with ECPD. Hopefully, fruitful collaboration will be established in 2012.

Horus Awards 2011 for Social Responsibility
IRDO - Institute for development of Social Responsibility and PRSS - Slovenian Association for Public Relationship, under high patronage by the president of Republic of Slovenia, dr. Slovenia reduces CO2: 20 cases of good practices
Project Slovenia reduces CO2 has been one of the projects in the framework of partnership between European Commission, Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Parliament in the field of communications of European content. The project Slovenia reduces CO2: good practices brings promotion of good practices, spreading knowledge and encourages changes. The project is focusing on the following priority fields: renewable sources of energy, effective use of energy, sustainable mobility, ecological agriculture, sustainable development of the countryside, value chain of wood, sustainable production and consumption and adapting to climate changes.

Mr Janez Podobnik, ECPD Director attended Ljubljana Forum on Friday, 14.10.2011, where he presented a development project where ECPD is collaborating with ICPE (International Center for Promotion of Enterprises), namely: Recreational and Long Distance Tourist Bicycle lanes along Sava River, Connecting Capital Cities Ljubljana, Zagreb and Belgrade.
Partnership for Improvement of Danube Infrastructure and Navigation (PIDIN)
On 11th October ECPD director Mr Janez Podobnik and David Tavželj attendet the 11th PIDIN MEETING at SECI office in Vienna, Austria. The meeting was attended by representatives of public and private entities from the Danube countries as well as representatives from relevant regional and European organisations and institutions.
